Director, Patient Financial Services - Financial Services
Directs, organizes and coordinates the functions of Patient Financial Services. Supervises the work of all PFS staff members, maintains and controls supplies and equipment.

Essential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person is held accountable. Following are the essential functions of the job, along with the corresponding performance standards.

1. Manages patient financial services functions:
-Directs PFS functions and activities relating to admissions, accounts receivable, billing procedures, claims filing, and cashiering in the Hospital as well as the clinic.
-Directs maintenance of Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance filing and follow-up.
-Directs, supervises, and assists with activities related to verifying and posting charges, and processing claims to third party payers.
-Directs collection processes.
-Responsible for department budget and monitors the utilization of approved budgeted resources.
-Director of PFS and Financial Analyst are expected to work closely on collections, charge offs and accounting issues.
-In-service all departments and medical staff on new rules and regulations concerning charges and coding.

2. Charge Master:
-Maintains and updates all information related to the hospital charge master.
-Maintains and updates all information related to the clinic charge master.
-Responsible for assigning new procedure charges including CPT coding, revenue codes, type of service, and any applicable modifiers to the correct department.
-Maintains and updates all procedure forms according to CPT - 4 and HCPCS criteria including pharmacy and central supply.
-Training and support to departments on CPT-4 and HCPS coding, rules, regulations, and charges.
-Informs patients the estimated dollar amount of a procedure

3. Maintains supplies and equipment:
-Maintains inventory levels and orders supplies as needed.
-Supervises the stocking and use of supplies.
-Inspects office equipment, makes minor repairs and brings problems to the attention of the Chief Financial Officer.

4. Manages the department functions and supervision of department personnel:
-Establishes daily work schedules for PFS employees.
-Supervises the duties performed by employees of patient financial services.
-Assists in hiring, orientating, developing, and evaluating department employees.
-Responsible for hiring, orientating, developing, and evaluating the department’s managers.
-Recommends discipline and termination actions.

5. Other significant requirements:
-Provides information to patients and resolves patient billing issues.
-Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
-Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
-Demonstrates positive and effective working relationships with all health care team members.
-Will perform all other duties as may be assigned.
-Complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

-High school diploma required, Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.

-7 years of Patient Financial Services experience in a Health Care setting required with evidence of management experience included.
