PRESS RELEASE
April 23, 2017

Rick Montelongo, CEO of St. Mark's Medical Center's is pleased to announce that St. Mark's Medical Center Cardiovascular Imaging Center and Radiology Echocardiography labs have earned Echocardiography accreditation by the IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) in the area of Adult Transthoracic.

Echocardiography makes use of ultrasound to assess different areas of the heart and can detect heart disease or signs of serious cardiovascular conditions. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US, followed closely by stroke as the fourth highest cause of death.

There are many factors that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on echocardiography. The training and experience of the sonographer performing the procedure, the type of equipment used and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure, all contribute to a positive patient outcome. IAC Accreditation is a "seal of approval" that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care and dedication to continuous improvement.

"Accreditation by IAC indicates that both the CVIC and St. Mark's Medical Center Echo lab have undergone an intensive application and review process and is found to be in compliance with the published standards thus demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care in echocardiography. Comprised of a detailed self-evaluation followed by a thorough review by a panel of medical experts, the IAC accreditation process enables both the critical operational and technical components of the facility to be assessed, including representative case studies and their corresponding final reports" states Tamara Sloper of the IAC.-

"Obtaining this accreditation recognizes our team's effort to provide exceptional cardiac care to this community, something in which we take a great deal of pride" states Deanne Jordy RDCS, RVT, recent La Grange transplant and the Echocardiography Technical Director/Cardiac Sonographer at St. Mark's Cardiovascular Imaging Center (CVIC). "The IAC has verified the skill, accuracy, and consistency of our sonographers and physicians, the quality of equipment and software, and most importantly our commitment to excellence and constant improvement"

"When you strive for excellence in your work, it shows", adds Lisa Gerik CIVIC Clinic Manager and La Grange native. "This community needs and deserves this level of care and together St. Mark's and Austin Heart; are aggressively working to create a high cardiac care center for this area. I am very proud that our team has obtained national recognition for their accomplishement, and we look forward to continuing to extend exceptional care to our patients!"
